Talking TRAINER pay for training NEW Air Traffic Control's

I have a question on pay;

Do qualified traffic controllers who are training NEW Air Traffic Contollers receive additional pay when they are training?

If so, can you give me the details which are written in your contract? I would also like to know what the amount is you are getting paid. (I.E. percentage or additional amount)

Thank you,

Dave

To answer your questions...yes and no...it depends on what position they are training...in a tower environment you have a handful of positions...we will just go over the main three. Local, Ground, Clearance Delivery/Flight Data.

Once you have been certified on position for usually a minimum of six months and passed an FAA On-the-Job-Training (OJT) Instructors Course, you are authorized to conduct OJT on the positions you are qualified on.

For clearance delivery/flight data position, no extra money is allowed when you are training a new controller as it is not a control position...

For local and ground control you are authorized an additional 10% of your pay while training a new controller on those positions.

The actual amount paid varies depending on what level facility you are at as well as how many hours you were training a controller on that position.

They don't have to be NEW controllers in order for you to get the money...they just have to be training on the position. You could have someone that has been in the FAA for 20 years...get de-certified and has to retrain on position....if you were the OJTI, you would receive the 10% to re-train him...unless it was on clearance delivery/flight data...

that is all in a tower environment. TRACON and EnRoute have numerous other positions and might classify which ones they give the 10% OJTI premium different.

Red face OJTI Premium pay wording in union contract

Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it.

I am a "Vessel Traffic Control Specialist" for the Coast Guard/ Homeland Security. We monitor ship traffic with radar, AIS and VHF communications. We will be renegotiating our union contract soon and are looking for something to compare it too.

I was wondering if you could send me the exact wording that appears in your union contract in regards to OJTI premium pay.

Thank you so much,

Dave (please cc a copy to the below email)

ARTCC's pay the instructors 10%. Any R-side or D-side trainer will get it. They do NOT however, pay to train the A-side for obvious reasons.
