Hello, got a quick question. Can anyone explain what the difference between APREQ (Approval Request) and point out is. I know what what a point out is but APREQ seems to be the same thing... any examples?
Thanks for the help... |

A point out is when you want to enter another controlers airspace with out handing the aircraft over.
An APREQ is when you want to alter from a published procedure. For example: You are a tower controller and the standard departure froma runway is "Climb rwy heading climd to 3000" thence.....Due to traffic you want to Fly heading 030 and climb to 2000'" You have to APREQ it with the departure controller. I hope this answers your question. |

just to add on to the previous answer:
an APREQ is ANY time you want to request something and am looking for an approval to your request. approach controller wants to enter the tower controller's airspace. can't really do a point-out because you won't really be transferring radar identification to the tower (which is required for a point-out). so doing an APREQ allows you to enter their airspace even though you didn't do a point-out. |
