Hello there, my name is Robert and I am 18 years old; I hope to be an air traffic controller one day, but a few concerns are holding me back. Mainly, the uncertainty of whether or not ATCers are required to take polygraph tests prior to employment by the FAA. The reason I ask is because, well, I do terrible on them. I don't have a shady past or anything, I simply can't control my heart rate and breathing during the test. I was wondering if any ATCers could answer this question. I would rather find out now before I spend four years at the University of Arizona.
(I have sent a letter to the FAA Careers Division, but I have not recieved a reply). Thank You. |

Sorry Metal, but one has to wonder....at the age of 18,how many polygraphs have you taken? and why? to know you have this problem.

I was selected to be a public saftey (aka 911) dispatcher. I passed the apptitude tests, oral board interview, and the background check sans the polygraph. That was really the weirdest experience of my life.
